Tell us a bit about yourself I started taking oil painting lessons when I was 10 1/2 years old. It made me wanted to become an artist. I studied Fashion Design before deciding what I really want to do was to make art. I then registered to art school in university and started learning about contemporary art. This wasn't exactly what I was looking for but it helped me discovered myself. I became an art teacher before I invested in my art practice. I now have been painting for 10 years and I love it. I gives me a lot of freedom and joy.
What inspires you? Nature, travels, emotions, meditation are some of my endlessly subject of inspiration. I am obsess with birds. I love folk art from all around the world, specially from Mexico. Textiles and colors also play an important role as I use to study fashion design in my twenties. Textile was the first love of my life and I have a hole collection of fabrics at home. Walking in nature and gardens get me into the right mood to create. But in the cold winter times it is not possible to go into gardens and maybe this is why I like to paint plants, flowers and nature because I miss it so much… I also work with kids and their ability to create without fear inspire me to not care so much about perfection and to have fun.
The method behind the madness I first cover my canvas with an under layer of contrasting colours of acrylic paint. Than I paint in oil over it. In some areas, I will use thick paint. In others, I add liquin medium to dilute paint and apply it in several thin layers. I like the contrast of thick and thin. Some areas are paint roughly, others have many thins details done with a fine brush. Sometimes, I let the back ground colour appear a bit to give a little contrasting kick.
We'd love to get to know a bit more about you I am an art teacher in elementary school. I love travelling around the world and discover local culture. I collect art and craft from the different places where I have been. I use to study fashion and I have kept a little obsession for earrings and shoes! I like being surrounded by nature, the element and observe animals in their environment. I enjoy delicate food and beautiful inspiring places. I live in Montreal and I usually bike everywhere I go in the summer time. Cross country skiing is a must in the winter. But mostly, I feel like a modern bohemian.
Tell us a story I have a friend that use to come in my studio and dig for hidden pieces of my work. She would say: Where did you put all your beautiful art? Come on, show me what you have done recently! And she would start looking under my canvas and go round al the little corner of the studio to find some of my hidden work. The one I did not wanted to show. Than, she would ask me how much I sell it for and buy it on the spot. She was the first person to collect my art work.
